Week 6 - Rational

Image
Rationale: For this assignment I created a two page website using HTML and CSS with one animated video (using After Effects and Photoshop) discussing the importance of plants and how vital they are to the health of us and our planet. My target audience was kids at a primary school age so old enough to know what Global Warming is and to be able to read efficiently etc. Therefore my main goals were to make it simple and easy to use but still bright, colourful and interesting. My illustrations are very simple with plain block colours and minimal shading inside a thin black cartoon-ish style outline. I think this style suits the audience I am aiming this at and gives it a fun vibe. My motion graphic also incorporates this simple style, with up beat happy music playing in the background again to give it a fun and chirpy feel. If I were to change anything for next time or do this all over again I would make a lot more effort to not leave things to the last minute - I was sick however I

Week 5.2

My initial working for the main page of the HTML coding: I remembered that I wanted to create a two page website so I quickly wanted to illustrate something to represent the 'How to' Page, heres what I came up with: Unfortunately as I was a bit rushed while creating my website I didn't think to take too many screenshots while I was in the designing process and making progress, however here are the few I do have testing out different fonts and headers etc.  After playing with the header for a while and trying to make it look good, eventually I decided that I would just make two 'banner' type things which will still say the title yet will add more interest and more of the aesthetic that I want to come through in this website.  Here are the 'banner' titles I made - I think they look much more interesting than the plain old letters I had before and will grab the attention of the viewer (especially a kid).  Heres

Week 5

Thumbnails: Here is my first set of thumbnails: I thought that the end and start scenes were missing something so I did a little something with some colourful typography to catch the viewers eye while sending a message of whats the videos about - and the message its trying to get across, heres what I came up with: And my second set after seeing it printed out and updating some things to make it look better we well as finishing off what I hadn't yet done: You can see the progress between the two with the typography etc - I decided to make the facts the characters talking in a speech bubble to make it more interesting and exciting to read.  Now I am finally ready to properly start on getting my motion graphic done which I plan on keeping very simple anyway!

Week 4.2

Here are some of my updated illustrations: 'Sad/Unhealthy' House and City: 'Happy/Healthy' House and City: Earth 'Sad vs Happy': I am starting on my motion graphics (not really sure how to document this process) and although progress is very slow, as I haven't used After Effects in a long while, there is still progress which I am happy with!

Week 4

Image
This week I am really just focusing on getting my illustrations done so I can start doing the motion graphics on After Effects.  Today I drew up this house which I am planning on having twice in one scene, once in a sad, polluted world with no plants, and second in a happy clean environment with lots of plants - bright colours etc. I think if I do it right this should turn out as an effective transition. Unfortunately things did not work out with my partner so will be proceeding solo and only need to do one motion graphic. Here is a tree I did which I plan on incorporating into a few of my illustrations to create the appearance of a lush, healthy earth which is what I am going for.  Here is a city I drew for the same purpose as the house, to use as a base for my transition scene where the earth is sad and then turns to happy and healthy.

Week 3.2

Image
From where I started with my illustrations, I wanted to create more effect with my character and in the start of my video so as I planned I sort of made a sad 'dead' version of the happy plant character I created so that the watering can can water him and I can animate him back to life- which should be a good start to my motion graphic! Heres what I came up with: I also drew up this cute sun who I am planning on having in the top corner of all my 'happy scenes' and to have another character!

Week 3

Storyboard Annabelle and I started to discuss what we wanted our motion graphics to convey, and this is what we came up with. This is the storyboard I drew which is a draft for the 'Why plants are important' motion graphic.  This is the storyboard my partner drew up and it will be for the 'How to grow a plant' motion graphic.  I wrote a quick to do list of all the illustrations I plan on doing to complete my motion graphic but to be honest I will probably think of more - this is a good start though.
